MARKLEY & BALMER: Special presentation January 19, 7pm, at the WOODSTOCK LIBRARY: “MELODY FIRST”

Markley & Balmer once again deconstructing the American Songbook, this time featuring songs that began their life as already well-known tunes.  Fitting lyrics to an already existing tune (whether it’s the head of the chart, or vocalese on a famous improvised solo), is the greatest puzzle facing a lyricist.  The goal being, to make it seem as if the melody and lyric were born together.  Lisa and Bruce will present the songs along with stories and background on some favorites tunes.  Featuring compositions by Miles Davis, Bennie Golson, Jimmy Rowles, Victor Young, and more.
